Co-op magazine group tops $30 million in sales on its birthday
Austin, TX (ContentDesk) July 31, 2004 -- National Country Market has been on a 10-year mission to sell advertising for an obscure group of publications that are well known to consumers of electric cooperatives, but not to most of the rest of the U.S.NCM, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary August 1 at its annual meeting in Arlington, Virginia, represents one of the largest circulating magazine groups in the country. "If you look at our group as one magazine, we have the fifth largest magazine circulation in the country, right behind Better Homes & Gardens," says executive director George Macias.The 22 statewide magazines affiliated with NCM are produced by electric cooperative associations and most have been published for more than 60 years. In the past 10 years, NCM has generated $30 million in advertising revenue for the 22 publications, serving 7 million rural and suburban households. The cooperative organization should top $4.7 million in sales this year.Cooperatives like NCM exist to provide services for their member-owners rather than to generate profits. Examples of cooperatives include Ace Hardware, CarpetOne, Florida's Natural, Land O'Lakes, Ocean Spray, and Welch's.
NCM's clients include DR Trimmer Mowers, John Deere, Kawasaki Mule, Kubota Tractors, Mortgage Outlet, Nationwide Homes, Sears, Tempur-Pedic Mattresses, and USDA.The company employs four people in Austin, Texas and manages a12-member sales team located throughout the U.S..
